Mill Valley - August 1996. Since the Celebration of the Centennial of The Mt Tamalpais Scenic Railroad , we have devoted ourselves to continue to keep the history of the Mt Tamalpais Scenic Railroad alive ! In that spirit, we have been so fortunate to finally have purchased the last remaining locomotive that still exists, that at one time ran on our railroad.
The NO9 Heisler.
We want to bring it HOME !!! But of course, with that comes its challenges ! We need to restore and relocate this wonderful piece of history in order to return it to the place where it was built to be.
The Mt Tamalpais and Muir Woods Scenic Railway.
Whether you help through monetary donations, volunteering your time, or spreading our mission through word-of-mouth, thank you. We couldn't accomplish our goals without the help of supporters like you.
We have a solid plan , but making a solid plan into solid agreements requires some solid paperwork !! That is where we are now . Once all of the legal agreements and contracts are complete and in effect, we can get the plan in motion. Official Move Date is yet to be determined .
Here's the plan ....... PHASE ONE - "The Move"
We are working with two wonderful companies in this starting phase of NO9's journey back to us. North Coast Fabricators, out of Arcata CA, will provide the Crane to lift all of the assets (see above) , including NO9, onto trucks in Scotia CA to be shipped to their agreed upon destinations. We are donating one of the two Steam Donkeys (upper left) to Timber Heritage in Samoa, CA. The rest is heading to Willits, CA where it will all land at Baldo Locomotive Works . Upon arrival, Baldo Locomotive will lift No. 9 off it’s trailer and place it on Baldo tracks.
Shortly after that , Project Manager Troy James , Baldo's Locomotive Engineer and expert on many rare locomotives, will disconnect NO9's interlocked drive train and free up its wheels, so No. 9 can roll around the Baldo yard !! Woo Hoo !! Troy James will also technically supervise and manage NO9's ENTIRE journey from Scotia to Willits. He has plenty of experience in relocating Heisler locomotives. He is a gem, loves Heisler locomotives and very enthusiastic about our goals . Our NO9 is in the best hands possible !! We are truly thrilled to have ALL on board !!! Mt Tamalpais Scenic Railroad - Begins Again !!
